Xai Ke-i'dzei is being held prisoner with the rest of her family on a star base controlled by Prime, a hyper-democratic society ruled by an artificial intelligence. She has been summoned by the Oracle to return to Messim, the planet of her ancestors, but the Messinians hate her for being a member of the disgraced ruling class. In any case, being a prisoner, she has no way of getting there. Then, a surprise attack on the star base gives Xai the chance to escape and confront her destiny. |
